Fact: LEDs safer than CFLs

It’s a fact: light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are safer than compact flourescent lights (CFLs), and a recent article in a British newspaper makes the case-in-point. According to the article, hundreds of Chinese factory workers have been poisoned by the mercury used in CFLs.

As a part of the “green” movement, energy-efficient lighting is becoming vastly popular world-wide, and while CFLs do offer reduced energy consumption when compared with conventional incandescent bulbs, CFLs are turning out to be a dangerous alternative. In order to make CFL bulbs, a small amount of mercury is needed to create the chemical reaction that produces light. The article reports: (more…)
