The spring hunting season is only a few weeks away, which means it is time to start making those much needed preparations! From renewing permits to checking your equipment, there is a lot to do before the big season starts. Here are three steps you should not skip if you plan on hunting in the Pacific Northwest this spring.
1. Update licenses/permits
Hunting is a great sport, but you should always do it legally. Make sure you are up-to-date on all of your hunting licenses and permits. Nothing ruins an otherwise fun hunting trip like getting ticketed for having an expired license.
2. Check your equipment
You may have cleaned and cared for your guns and hunting knives quite well when you put them away for the winter, but it is always a good idea to check them before going out on your first hunt. This can included sharpening your knives, cleaning your gun, and going to a shooting range just to make sure your rifle is still functioning properly.
3. Buy new gear
Sometimes cleaning hunting gear just won’t do it – you need all new stuff. Make sure to stock up on hunting essentials such as warm clothing, comfortable boots, a powerful LED flashlight, and ammo. Being over prepared for a trip is a lot better than not having something you really, really need.
