The weather has been unseasonably favorable in Portland the last few weeks. Both young and old have been out and about during their afternoon breaks, walking through local parks, bicycling through town and generally enjoying what nature has to offer during the crisp, sunny month of February. Local organizations are even organizing activities to get people out, enjoying the local hiking areas in a safe and secure way.
The Gresham Seniors Hiking Group is inviting any local outdoor enthusiast to join them for a hike on Friday, February 29th. The group will walk and explore areas in historic North Portland and the greenways around the Willamette River, Cathedral Park and St. Johns Bridge. If you want to participate, you are asked to bring lunch money and a gas fund donation.
You may think that winter hiking must be reserved for the snowy mountain areas. Not the case, as you can see. Hiking in one form or another can be done anywhere and at any time of year so long as you are prepared.
