Packing Problems?

“With so many different types of affordable and durable camping equipment and gear to choose from, where do you begin?” opens Jonathan Perez on the problem of packing. His article attempts to tackle the task and reduce its daunting demeanor.

Before he dives into his suggestions on packing, Perez offers the age-old “safety in numbers” advice, saying you should always travel with someone, not just for safety but for fun as well.

The first piece a packing advice Perez offers is to make a checklist. The items on the list will, of course, vary depending on where you’re traveling to, but simply getting everything down on paper will drastically improve the packing process — virtually eliminating forgotton items.

Perez recommends making sure to pack the essentials whereever you go. Things like an LED flashlight or LED lantern, tent, sleeping bag, and a quality backpack. He emphasizes the importance of a sturdy tent when camping because it’s the only thing protecting you from the elements.

Another item Perez suggests taking along is a water filter or purifier.  With today’s polluted environment, he says, you never know what kind of bacteria or pollutant is in your water.

He abruptly ends his article with a list of other items he believes are important to pack including: food supplies, utensils, stove, hatchet, durable knife, first-aid kit, insect repellent, medication, compass, lighters, warm clothing, and blankets.
