According to an ODFW press release, the pond will be stocked with 1,200 legal size rainbow trout and 1,000 larger trout. Additionally, the department will also supply fishing gear including rods, reels, bait, tackle, and fish bags for use by young anglers who do not have their own fishing equipment. ODFW staff and volunteers will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer questions and offer assistance to less experienced anglers.
The event is free to the public, and anglers 13 years of age and under can fish for free. However, a juvenile angling license is required for youth 14-17 years of age. All state angling regulations apply for this event.
“This is a good opportunity to come out to one of our most popular ponds and get in some trout fishing while the weather is still good and the fish are biting,” said Jeff Fulop, an ODFW biologist for the North Willamette region.
West Salish Pond is located behind Salish Elementary School in Salish Ponds Wetlands Park in Fairview on N.E. Glisan Street, between 201st and 207th Ave. For more information, you can contact Fulop at 971.673.6034.
