NASCAR to Open Campgrounds

NASCARApparently, American sports giant NASCAR is planning on expanding its fan base and increasing customer loyalty. In a recent report, the racing organization is said to be preparing to launch up to 500 branded camping grounds over the next decade. In fact, 13 are planned to be constructed this spring.

NASCAR fans are avid campers, with some numbers estimating that over 60 percent are RVers, said Robert Moser, chief executive of NASCAR RV Resorts and co-owner of Morgan RV resorts. “It’s a perfect fit.”

Morgan RV Resorts is the largest private owner and operator of recreational vehicle facilities in the country. Similarly, NASCAR has one of, if not, the largest fanbase in the United States, estimated at close to 75 million persons.

Needless to say, both industries have been negatively affected by the recession as consumers cut-back this past year. Still, since nearly 30 million Americans go camping every year, according to the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, the two organizations stand to cut a significant slice out of  the $5 billion campground industry pie.

Personally, I think it’s not a bad idea. At least, if the numbers above are accurate, they should speak for themselves. With the economy gaining speed, it could be the perfect time to invest in a project like this one. And if you’re planning on checking out one of these new NASCAR RV sites, just make sure you’re equipped with all the right camping gear essentials.
