It’s October, and that means Halloween is right around the corner! If you’re like us, you’ve probably already brought out the plastic spiders and cotton cobwebs. Or maybe you’re a traditionalist and need only one special decoration for the Halloween season. That’s right: a pumpkin.

Lighted pumpkins, or jack-o-lanterns, have been a Halloween tradition in the United States for years. Dating back to as early as 1807, carved pumpkins were first associated with the harvest, not Halloween. The term “jack-o-lantern” came from a 17th century term used to describe a night watchman. It wasn’t until the mid-1800s that the term (and the carved pumpkin itself) came to be associated with Halloween. Since then, pumpkin carving has become an American tradition as popular as trimming the Christmas tree or watching fireworks.

If you’re like most people, you probably still use a candle to light your jack-o-lantern. The problem with candles is that they are wasteful, they don’t last very long, and they can be hard to light. The solution? LED lights!

Small LED lights make the perfect candle replacements for Halloween pumpkins. Here are a few reasons why:

Size – LED bulbs are very small, meaning you can hide one inside the pumpkin without fear of it being noticed.

Safety – LEDs give off very little heat, so there’s no danger of you or your children burning themselves setting it up or taking it out. Also, you don’t have to worry about a candle flame going AWOL and burning your house down.

Efficiency – One LED bulb will usually last for hundreds of hours, meaning you’ll only need one bulb for the entire month of Halloween. That will save you time and money.

Variety – Tired of the plain, one-color candle routine? LED bulbs come in many spooky colors, allowing you to match your pumpkin LED lantern with any Halloween decorating scheme you can imagine.

Yes, LED bulbs and jack-o-lanterns are a perfect match. Stay tuned next week when we’ll continue our LED Lights & Halloween series with a look at spooky house decorations.
