Another free fishing event for young people who want to learn how to fish will be held on Saturday, April 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Junction City Pond. The event is Junction City Moose Lodge’s annual youth fishing derby.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is sponsoring the event as a part of its Youth Angling Enhancement Program. ODFW will stock the pond with more than 1,000 rainbow trout from the Willamette Hatchery in Oakridge.
If you find yourself short on fishing equipment, rods, reels and bait will be available to young anglers who do not have their own. There will also be plenty of volunteers available to teach the youth how to bait a hook, cast a rod, and land a fish.
Anglers under the age of 14 can fish for free, but a juvenile license is required for anglers 14-17 years of age. Additionally, all Oregon fishing regulations will also apply.
The Junction City Pond is about three miles south of Junction City, just west of Highway 99. For more information, contact Steve Mamoyac at 541.757.4186 or visit the ODFW web site.
