Earth Day is right around the corner – April 22, to be exact – and we here at Coast couldn’t be more excited. Our high-quality LED products use less energy and last longer than traditional incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs, which helps people reduce energy consumption on a day-to-day basis. This year, we want to focus on two of the most popular outdoor activities, camping and hiking, and the different ways you can enjoy these activities in a green, eco-friendly way using LED headlamps and other LED camping accessories.
1. Pack out what you pack in.
There’s nothing worse than getting to a campsite or hiking trail and finding garbage scattered about. Not only is it disgusting, it is harmful to the surrounding plant and animal life. Make sure you pack out any and all waste products you bring with you. It’s not only eco-friendly, it’s the law.
2. Rough it.
“Camping” in a giant RV isn’t camping at all. It’s also the least eco-friendly way to visit the great outdoors. Instead of bringing along a gas-guzzling energy hog, try bringing a tent and cooking your meals over a campfire. Also, leave personal electrical devices like laptops and cell phones at home and turned off. If the idea of going without gadgets for a few days scares you, maybe camping isn’t your thing.
3. Use eco-friendly gear.
Consider bringing along LED headlamps and flashlights on your next trip. LED camping equipment is much more energy-efficient than regular lights, and there are a variety of styles and models to choose from. Instead of using that old propane lantern, consider a modern LED lantern. Eco-friendly LED lanterns provide a surprisingly amount of light and many models can last up to 100 hours.
4. Bring reusable materials.
Forget the plastic forks and Styrofoam cups. Bring regular dishes and utensils and wash them after eating as you would at home. This significantly reduces waste for any hiking or camping trip.
5. Follow campsite and park regulations.
They’re put in place for a reason – follow them!
Remember, Earth Day may only come once a year, but the spirit of Earth Day is something you can keep alive the whole year long. Visit the Coast Products website for more information on LED camping accessories, knives and multi tools.
