Oregon and Washington extended the white sturgeon fishing season in the lower Columbia River, giving anglers a chance to catch the 4,100 fish still available under the season’s harvest limit.
Now, anglers will have two additional opportunities to legally fish white sturgeon on the Columbia. The first three-day retention period will take place Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12. The second period will take place Friday, July 17 through Sunday, July 19.
LED lighting is saying goodbye to the fluorescent tube, or at least, it’s about to. According to a California-based LED manufacturer, there’s a new fluorescent-replacement LED lighting product providing the equivalent light output of 24 to 32-watt fluorescent lamps, consuming less than a maximum of 19 watts and operating on a voltage range of 100 to 290 volts AC.
While conventional fluorescent lamps typically have a rated life in the range 8,000 to 24,000 hours, these LED lamps boast an operating life of 50,000 hours — 5.7 years of continuous light. The construction of a UV-resistant polycarbonate housing over the LED tube provides increased protection and shielding against many environmental effects, allowing them to be placed in locations where typical lights would be more vulnerable to the elements.
The Chief Executive Officer of Cree met the Commander-in-chief of the United States yesterday. Chuck Swoboda, chairman and CEO of Cree, was invited by President Obama to participate in a discussion regarding the latest developments in energy efficient technologies, according to a company press release.
Swoboda, along with seven other CEOs representing American companies at the forefront of innovation, met with the President to discuss American innovation in areas such as clean energy and the potential benefits to the U.S. economy.
