Today’s hunting experience is typically laden with modern technology. From multi-tools that include a camping knife, to high-powered rifle scopes, to special telescopic lenses, most hunters rely on a plethora of gizmos to take down their game. However, one ancient, gadget-free form of hunting is gaining popularity in the southern United States: knife hunting.

The state of Oregon alone has up to 30,000 black bears. While grizzly bears were once native to the state, they have been gone for nearly a century. Despite their name, black bears can have cinnamon, brown or blond fur.
Many hunters dream of the day when their children will join them in the woods and learn how to track and kill their own game. Unfortunately, the number of hunters across the nation is steadily dwindling as fewer and fewer kids are exposed to this once-common outdoor activity.
